Uber Freight is teaming up with Truckers Against Trafficking to help truck drivers combat human trafficking. The partnership will provide free training and resources to shippers and carriers in the U.S. and Canada, giving them tools they need to identify potential cases of exploitation while on their routes.
“Human trafficking affects 40 million people globally,” a news release stated. “It’s made its way onto the streets, into private homes and into legitimate businesses such as restaurants, truck stops and motels. Victims need help to find their way home.”
Through its Industry Training Program, TAT is primed to arm thousands of trucking professionals with the resources and knowledge necessary in order to combat human trafficking. By empowering industry members across the country, this program remains a beacon for meaningful change and progress against large-scale challenges like modern slavery.
“The program has resulted in a significant increase in reports of possible trafficking cases to the national hotline from truck drivers, leading to victim recoveries and the arrest of criminals,” the organization said in a recent news release.
