Last week, The American Trucking Association appointed 13 representatives from 10 motor carriers to its 2023 Law Enforcement Advisory Board (LEAB).
LEAB is comprised of ATA members who have previous experience in federal, state, and local law enforcement as current and retired law enforcement officials who have contributed positively to the partnership between trucking and law enforcement organizations across the country. The board was founded in 2021 to advise the ATA Federation on strategies to grow and strengthening relationships between the two groups.
The board is currently 38 members strong and boasts a collective law enforcement experience totaling over 900 years. These members bring a current or previous affiliation to 29 law enforcement entities across the nation.
Fred Fakkema, Zonar Systems Vice President of Safety and Compliance will once again serve as LEAB chairman. Fakkema brings over 25 years of service with the Washington State Patrol with him which he served prior to joining Zonar.
“Last year, we helped advance the ball on truck parking through outreach to state departments of transportation across the country, alerting them to the federal funds available to build out capacity,” said Fakkema. “That issue, in addition to others like human trafficking, aggressive and distracted driving, and marijuana legalization, will remain a top focus of ours in the year ahead.”
