California just brought stricter regulations to truck owners, as of January 1st. The mandate, part of the California Air Resources Board’s enforcement mechanism prohibits any vehicles with engines predating 2010 from being registered or renewed in the state. Roughly 76,000 trucks around California will be affected by the ban. CARB and DMV will presume all model years 2008-2010 use 2007-2009 specification motors and unless proven otherwise, registration/renewals will be blocked.
Those who own a 2012 model year truck with a 2010 model year engine can report that their engine is compliant via CARB’s Excluded Diesel Vehicle Reporting data base (EDVR).
