A Texas truck driver is continuing his 20-year tradition of donating Thanksgiving meals to those in need thanks to support from the community.
Texan and truck driver Darryn Carabeno has been handing out Thanksgiving dinners in and around Weslaco, Texas for more than two decades, and this year will be no different.
“I see the need in the community. I see the people. I hear the stories and we gotta help,” Carabeno said to Valley Central News.
This year, Carabeno will be passing out a whopping 500 turkeys, all with the help of the community he works so hard to serve each holiday season.
“They want to be a part of this and that is how it works. We are all a piece in the chain and we just keep it moving. Not one of us is more important than the other. Even without me this still works. That is the beauty of it,” he said.
Carabeno says that this cycle of giving and receiving support within the community is what drives him to donate each year; and even believes that these sorts of projects are what unify the citizens of this country.
“These are our people. We see them on the daily basis. We know them and what better way to give back to your community than getting directly involved and giving them a meal that they can share in the privacy of their own home,” he said.
“We gotta do something and if we want to unify this country this is how you do it.”
Thank you, Darryn. And Happy Thanksgiving!
