The pandemic certainly highlighted the role of truck drivers in keeping our economy and supply chain moving. For the fourth year, Acuity is sponsoring its annual essay contest to celebrate truck drivers and the work they do with prizes ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.
Submissions are being accepted through July 21, 2021, so if you haven’t yet, get your keyboard ready and choose one of the following topics:
- How has a truck driver in your life gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic?
- How has someone in your life gone above and beyond in supporting a truck driver or their family during the COVID-19 pandemic?
According to Acuity’s essay site, the contest is open to all truck drivers as well as anyone with a personal connection to a truck driver or a truck driver’s family. Contestants must be legal residents of the 50 United States or Washington D.C.
All eligible entries will be evaluated and scored by Acuity’s contest judges based on the originality (the uniqueness of the story), use of language relevant to the topic, and creativity in how ideas are expressed.
Not only is the essay writer a potential prize-winner, the trucker recognized is also given matching prize money. For both the writer and the truck driver, Acuity will donate funds to the charity chosen by the winners. Options for the charitable donation are St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, Truckers Against Trafficking, or Women in Trucking Foundation.
In each category, the entry with the highest total score will be deemed the First Place Winner, the second-highest score deemed the Second Place Winner, and the third-highest score deemed the Third Place Winner. In the event of a tie, the entry with the highest score for originality followed by creativity will be deemed the winner from among all tying entries. Winners will be notified on or before August 15, 2021.
