Has Your ELD Model Been Revoked by FMCSA?

In just a little over a week’s time, the FMCSA has revoked 3 models of Electronic Logging Devices.

On January 31, FMCSA removed TMS ONE’s “ELD ONE,” model number OELD01, giving drivers and carriers using the device 60 days to replace the revoked ELD with a compliant device. The reason given for the revocation is that the device failed to meet the minim requirements established by 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A. This regulation “requires that an ELD without a printer be designed so that the display may be reasonably viewed by an authorized safety official without entering the commercial motor vehicle.”

Effective February 3, the agency removed Nationwide ELD from the list of registered devices because of a “failure to meet minimum requirements.” Once again, drivers and carriers using the device, will have 60 days to replaced devices with a compliant ELD system.

The most recent device to be revoked was announced on February 8, when the agency removed ONE PLUS ELD from its list of registered devices

For all three devices, the direction from FMCSA is the same.

  1. Discontinue using the revoked devices and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data
  2. Replace the revoked devices with compliant ELDs from the Registered Devices List within 60 days of its announced revocation.

Motor carriers who continue to use the revoked devices 60 days past their removal from registration, will be considered to be operating without an ELD and drivers could be placed out of service.
