U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reportedly seized 2,611 pounds of meth and 113 pounds of cocaine from a semi-truck hauling cauliflower from Mexico into the Port of Entry in Loredo, Tex.
“Attempts to smuggle contraband through commercial supply chains are increasing,” Port Director Alberto Flores told News10. “CBP’s continued robust enforcement posture and dedication to border security operations has led us to major narcotic interdictions at our cargo facilities.”
Police used a drug-sniffing dog and x-ray to find almost 3,000 pounds of narcotics stored on the cauliflower truck.
Later that day, CBP officers inspected a Ford van that was supposed to be bringing seat cushions from Mexico and found 1,014 pounds of marijuana in 400 packages within the seat cushions — worth an estimated $203,000 on the street.
Both cases have reportedly been turned over to special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
