On May 14, Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley is bringing trucks of hope to the Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction. The convoy will be making its way through this region for a greater cause – raising money in support of granting wishes that bring strength and joy to children with critical illnesses. Registration has officially opened ahead of this heartfelt event so you can now sign up to join this convoy for a cause.
Each year, hundreds of truckers from far and wide join together in the annual convoy to make wishes come true. Now, 34 years running strong, drivers travel a 26-mile route through Manheim and Mount Joy, Pa., highlighting their commitment over the year as they raise funds to help children fighting critical illnesses have some joy with their wish granting organization.
Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley has announced that its annual convoy event is responsible for a whopping 75% of their yearly fundraising totals. Last year, drivers raised an impressive 87%, or $543,875 out of the set goal amounting to $623K – but Make-A-Wish isn’t done yet! For 2023 they’ve upped the ante with a total aim of raising $700K by individual drivers. Development director Lori Dietrich shared that funds raised by individual drivers have a big impact on the overall success of the convoy.
“The largest fundraising stream for the event comes from drivers’ fundraising efforts. Last year, drivers raised nearly $400,000 toward the goal. After that, our corporate sponsorships from the trucking and business community help us to raise the needed funds to meet our goal and grant all eligible wishes of children battling critical illnesses.”
Since 1986, Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley has granted more than 7,500 wishes, according to their website.
The day kicks off with a carnival that includes clowns, food trucks, an auction and more. As the convoy rolls out, Dietrich says some drivers will have a special co-pilot along for the ride.
“Wish kids who attend the convoy get a swag bag, free lunch, and a chance to ride in a truck along the convoy route,” she said. “Seeing wish kids in trucks during the convoy is incredibly heartwarming. Many of our drivers form lasting friends with wish kids and their families and drive the same kid each year.”
