A trucker from North Carolina has received recognition for pulling over a potentially dangerous driver. Corey Parker of Kenansville, North Carolina, was recently recognized as a Roadway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association for halting an overdose driver who was behaving erratically on a busy central Virginia highway. Parker was heading south from Ashland, Virginia, in the early evening when he saw a Lexus automobile darting from lane to lane carelessly. According to Parker, “They struck the barrier, went out to the middle of the road, and then in and smacked the barrier again. I believed that there was clearly a problem.”
Parker honked his horn and tried to slow down traffic in order to alert onlookers about the unpredictable driver. Parker used his truck to slow the car down and stop it against a concrete wall out of concern that the driver would hit a car full of uninjured passengers. According to Parker, “they slowed down to around 10, 15 (miles per hour) and hit the barrier. I realized that was the best opportunity to approach them.” He rushed to the driver’s side to find the driver unconscious, and police soon arrived. Thank you to Corey Parker for ensuring that the driver and others on the road were safe.
